It's now 16+ days since Aesha was born and just when I think I'm getting the hang out it - she changes something on us. Her feeding is going well - I thought I figured out a brilliant solution to her "grazing." While she is nursing on one breast, I pump on the other and then we give it to her in a bottle - that way we make sure she is getting the hindmilk and she can suck down the milk in the bottle faster.
Also, when she was grazing, she would end up falling asleep before she was full and would wake up 30 minutes later just as hungry and a little more agitated. This does not allow for mommy downtime and was exhausting me. The bottle was working well, but now she does not like the bottle. AG has had to pull out all his tricks to try to get her to suck down half an ounce and she's supposed to have 2 ounces per feeding. Today has been a challenging day. I finally swaddled her up - gave up feeding her on the bottle and gave her the breast. Of course she fell asleep in 10 minutes. I hope she got enough.
The weather has been so beautiful and today is so warm. I wanted to attend the mother's group luncheon with the other 5 couples from our birthing class, now that everyone has had their baby. Anyella, the other woman who has kaiser, coincidentally had a c-section as well. Everyone else had a vaginal delivery - hrm....
Last night we went to Sandy/Carla's for dinner - they are so sweet. It was their last night before they went back to work - from a month long vacation and they chose to spend it with us. Sandy made a delicious salmon and pork loin dinner - we brought a salad. Carla is utterly enthralled with Aesha. It's so sweet to see. Aesha is awake more and more often and is as cute as ever. But her stubborness and willfulness is showing through - and AG is so great with her. He takes his time with her - talking to her, singing to her, walking her around and soothing her when she cries. I've never seen a more dedicated father - he's really amazing and I'm super lucky to have him as a partner.
My wound is completely healed now - but every once in awhile I get some sharp pains. I still cannot sleep on my side and internally I'm not completely myself - but I'm moving around a lot more and can't wait to get out of the house. Lots of family coming in this weekend. Initially it was only my parents, but Chris, Al and Karen are coming down for Rudy's book signing in San Jose - so we decided to layer everyone in. We'll have some one on one time with Chris and Al Friday then Saturday my parents get to have full access to Aesha since they haven't met her yet. We'll probably try to have dinner in San Jose. Monday we'll have one on one time with Karen. I'm sure Grandma Karen will be excited to have a full day with her little Aesha. Pictures of little Aesha are at www.aeshamaysun.blogspot.com

Don't worry, mama, she'll get what she needs. They instinctively know what they need, and eat when they are hungry, even in those early months. It's from millions of years of survival and biology! Dahlia used to fall asleep on the boob ALL the time, and look at her - clearly she got what she needed! Hang in there... you will get more sleep eventually. Maybe not for a year, but eventually... :)
hey lady! let me tell, the vagina delivery is not all that great either! it is painful!!!!!!! i couldn't even sit down without gulping down tons of tylenol for about 2 months and you don't even want to hear about not being able to hold it till you find a bathroom! can you imagine being in SF! there are no public toilets! it took at least a year to recover from that too, so really a C-section is probably a better option! plus, they were stitching me up for at least 45 minutes i tore so much! okay, this is gross, but just wanted to let you know that a C-section is not such a bad thing! i won't be offended if you delete this comment!
