Uncle Dave's visit

AG's brother, Dave, visited us and his niece this weekend. It's wonderful to see them interact together, he completely adores Aesha and spent every moment he could holding her. Pictures up on Aesha's blog.

Back to Work

So I'm on my 2nd full week back to work after 4 months off. I dropped the little monster off at daycare on Monday and am feeling good about it. The daycare is 1 block from Shelaine's house which is approximately 6 blocks from our house and is very convenient. On Monday she did the same song and dance for them as she did for Grandma Karen and took only 2.5 ounces of milk. But in a sudden turn of events, she took 6 oz yesterday. I couldn't believe it. When AG and I arrived to pick her up, she was having a great time on Maria's lap drinking out of the bottle. We were thrilled to hear that she was taking more than her usual and asked what they did differently. They couldn't really explain except that they did use a different nipple... a cheap one from walgreens. I must go out and purchase this nipple for her. Here I have been trying the most expensive kinds and she took to something much simpler. I hope that is the only difference. I can't wait to hear what she took today and the rest of the week to confirm that perhaps she has started to take the bottle.

It could be a number of other reasons as well. Perhaps GM Karen got her more used to the bottle, perhaps it's because she just turned 4 months yesterday... oh so many reasons for that child. The result of her taking the bottle and eating more during the day will be sleeping more at night and not keeping me up so she can get what she missed during the day.

If I didn't work from home Tuesdays and Thursdays and thereby getting a chance to sleep in a little later, I think I would definitely be walking around like a zombie. But I am so hopeful that this is the beginning of her relationship with the bottle. I've also started to check into when we could begin introducing the little monster to solids. She's been eyeing our food with intense interest the last couple of weeks and it's been fun watching her watching us. I'm excited to see whether she'll have more distinguishing interests in food like me or will be easy going like her father. I'm hoping the latter rather than the former.

Another interesting event happend this morning, right after her 4 monthaversary; I began menstruating again. This comes as a little bit of a shock, cuz I know other moms who didn't menstruate until way after they stopped nursing. I've had 2 dreams last month that I was pregnant and had a feeling that I was ovulating but not wanting to mention it. Thankfully AG and I have taken precautions. If we hadn't.... I'd be here telling you about the next little monster coming next year ;).

Whew.....

So how has it been to get back into work fulltime? In general it sucks to get up at 5:30 or 6am and rush out the door. I don't get to see the monster for 11 hours, so I need that extra 15 minutes to snuggle and play with her before getting ready for my day. Monday, I didn't get a chance to have that 15 minutes and I was really missing her by lunch time. Tuesday was a lot easier since I worked from home and AG was also home. We dropped her off at noon so I could have an opportunity to go to the gym. And this morning, we left her in bed for as long as possible, and then when all was packed and ready to go, I got my 10 minutes with her, waking her up gently and smiling and cooing with her before we dropped her off at daycare and I whisked off to work. Otherwise, it's been really nice to have blocks of time where I could accomplish and complete things. Although I miss her a ton when I'm at work, I do enjoy getting out, interacting with adults and getting stuff done.

Work has been a whirlwind. I am thrown back into crazy chaos - and with as much work as I had when I left. More acquisitions and taking on more projects. I'm too busy at work to blog as much as I used, but I do indulge every once in awhile to read my friend's blogs and to write in mine as well. I've been really enjoing Aesha's blog now that I'm at work... and I check it often to see pictures of her when she was so tiny. So glad I took those pictures, really, it's difficult to go back and remember how small she was. Reminding myself that I should continue to capture those moments with her and to enjoy every day because she's changing daily and I'll look back one day and she won't be so little anymore and I will wished I had spent more time with her.

That's what I'm realizing more everyday. During my pregnancy I really enjoyed being in the moment and I hope to continue to do that every day of my life. Makes me stop to smell the roses and not have many regrets. At one time in my life, and even with AG, I had not wanted to be a mother or a parent. I'm really glad I changed that decision. It's been the best times of my life and I couldn't imagine life without the little monster.

Happy New Year - 2008

We had an unexpectedly fun new year. Grandma Karen came to town and is house-sitting for Colleen in Bernal and taking care of the little monster while I attempt to ease back into work full time. For New Year's we got her settled in and had dinner together. Aesha stayed with her grandmother until we picked her up later that night.
Thinking that we didn't want to overwhelm Karen on her first night with Aesha, we planned on a mellow night: pre-partying at our house with roomies Allison and Andy - they had a group over for drinks and food. About 15 people joined us and we had a great time meeting everyone.

Then we walked to meet Sandy and Carla at Tom's for his famous crab dinner. I had plenty to drink and by the count down, I could barely keep it together. We picked up Aesha, headed home and I passed out. I find these pictures on my camera the next morning.

Holiday parties

Catching up - Holiday party at John and Amy (who are expecting a little boy in May). The grandparents were visiting the bay area for 2 weeks and AG and I took advantage of one night out. We drove to Walnut Creek and had a really great dinner with Al, Chris and her mom Francis. Al made his famous cabbage wrapped goodness. I had 2nd helpings.

We dressed up for the Holiday cocktail party and I felt as if we were back in high school going to a school dance taking pictures by the fireplace. We had a wonderful time hanging out with adults.

Isn't this a group of beautiful strong women?
